that's rad! i love the way you put it into scientific terms my nerd brain can relate to. i have loved the nettles for a while now, but i wonder if maybe there is more to my love for them than i even realized (auto-immune stuff runs in my family, and i am seeing signs of maybe early arthritis or something along those lines in myself… time to go do some harvesting!)

From one nerd brain to another, I'm so glad you enjoyed it! They are really good for arthritis too, which I didn't go into as much in this article, but just the topical action of picking them will be therapeutic for your hands, not to mention drinking nettle tea. I have found that nettles especially love growing in the coast range, so you are in the perfect area to harvest a haul!

Welcome

Out here in Oregon, I enjoy the rough-hewn life of a modern homesteader and mountain woman, weaving the outdoors into the fabric of daily life. Whether tending this McKenzie River homestead hearth or a campfire in the backcountry, I find great enjoyment in the work of a sustainable life. Gather around as I share my tales of outdoor adventure, conservation, restoration, land stewardship, wildcrafting, handcrafting, growing food, and keeping chickens. It is my hope to share ideas and inspiration, and strengthen connections with the land and wild places. Read More…
